At Hillebrand Gori, we believe that providing services that help to lower related GHG emissions and the overall transport footprint isn’t just a goal - it’s an essential part of how we serve our customers. That’s why Gerome Soler, Customer Service Operations Manager in France, has been leading the way in developing low-emission transport solutions. The aim is to help wine, beer and spirits shippers reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining supply chain efficiency.
With a clear mission to lower transport-related GHG emissions and position Hillebrand Gori as a provider of choice, Gerome has successfully implemented rail services and biofuel trucking solutions that make more carbon efficient logistics a reality.
The challenge: lowering the overall transport footprint for our customers
Wine, beer and spirits importers are increasingly looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising on the reliability of their shipments. In France, Gerome set about finding alternatives to traditional trucking methods and increasing the use of rail transport, where available.
- Conventional trucking relies heavily on fossil fuels, contributing to high GHG emissions.
- Rail services existed but were underutilized, limiting the potential for emissions reduction.
- Customers needed a logistics partner that could provide practical, sustainable transport solutions without disrupting their supply chain.
Gerome knew that to truly drive change, Hillebrand Gori needed a comprehensive approach to smarter more emission efficient logistics services. One that tackled both trucking and rail transport solutions.
The solution: implementing rail and biofuel trucking to lower the overall transport footprint
Gerome and his team developed a suite of transport solutions to help lower the transport footprint of customer shipments. This meant that Hillebrand Gori’s customers could move their shipments more efficiently while reducing their environmental impact. So what did Gerome implement…
- Increased rail transport – Where railway services are available, Gerome increased the percentage of wine shipments moving via rail. This makes it possible to lower emissions compared to traditional road transport.
- Biofuel trucking across France – By partnering with trucking companies committed to spending less emissions, Gerome helped convert fleets of trucks to use biofuels. This meant that container movements within France have a reduced carbon footprint.
- Using sail ships – when possible, Gerome and his team place pallets on sail ships which use the power of the wind to function for the majority of the sea journey where possible.
The outcome? Customers now have access to a more efficient logistics network, helping them meet their own emission goals while benefiting from optimized transport solutions.
The results: a more emission efficient future for beverage logistics
Through Gerome’s leadership and proactiveness, Hillebrand Gori has already achieved significant progress in lowering transport related emissions:
- 43% of all wine collections in France are now completed using biofuel trucks.
- The target is set for 50% biofuel truck usage by the end of 2025.
- Rail transport has increased from 30% to 50%, significantly lowering emissions.
- Sail ship use when possible for deep sea or transatlantic shipments
By continuously improving our transport solutions, Gerome is helping importers make more responsible logistics choices. This enables the wine, beer and spirits industry to grow their business without compromising the environment.

Biofuel trucking replaces traditional diesel with renewable fuel sources, which helps with cutting greenhouse gas emissions. In France, 43% of wine collections made by Hillebrand Gori now use biofuel trucks, and we aim to increase this to 50% by the end of 2025.
Rail transport that uses energy from renewable sources like electricity, emits fewer emissions compared to road transport. We have increased rail usage for wine shipments in France from 30% to 50%, helping to reduce transport emissions for our customers who use rail services.
Hillebrand Gori offers customized transport solutions for importers of wine, beer and spirits that help lower GHG emissions. Whether its finding alternatives transport modes or routes, or switching to more sustainable fuels, we can help improve efficiency.
